Miami-Dade Animal Services Pet Adoption & Protection Center

The project entailed construction work on approximately 70,000 square feet which included an  existing building and  extensive renovation and structural retrofitting. The new facility offers a comfortable environment for homeless pets, those who care for them, and the people looking to adopt a dog or cat.

Overview

miamidade_eagleawards_thumbs2-300x145 - Miami-Dade Animal Services Pet Adoption & Protection CenterThrough extensive renovation of an existing tile warehouse and distribution center on NW 78th Avenue, the new 74,000 square foot shelter facility built by Lynx represents the first no-kill animal shelter opened by Miami-Dade County administration. The new facility provides a total of 418 canine and feline adoption cages, representing a 25% increase from what was previously available in the County’s existing Animal Services Shelter facility in Medley. Lynx’s renovation and new construction work created outdoor canine walk areas, additional storage through a mezzanine space, and 173 surface parking spaces for both staff and public. Roadway improvements along a portion of NW 78th Avenue also created limited, yet necessary enhancements to improve the flow of nearby traffic.

Lastly, the new shelter provides a state-of-the-art, in-house public clinic and operating rooms. These operating rooms help address Miami-Dade County’s “Spay & Neuter”initiative, which offers spay and neuter surgeries for Miami-Dade County residents at a reduced price, through donations to the Animal Services Trust Fund.
